jack Bionda shootout

The Jack Bionda Shootout has been welcoming teams from across Ontario for many years and is traditionally held on the second weekend of July. The tournament is named in honour of John Arthur James “Jack” Bionda (1933–1999), one of the most dominant players in the history of Canadian lacrosse.

Born in Huntsville, Ontario, Bionda developed a passion for lacrosse at a young age, often practicing for hours each day. His talent quickly set him apart, leading the Brampton Excelsiors to a 1952 Minto Cup victory before his 19th birthday. Throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, Bionda was a true superstar, earning multiple league scoring titles and starring for elite teams including the Victoria Shamrocks, New Westminster Salmonbellies, and Nanaimo Timbermen.

Bionda won the Mann Cup multiple times and was twice named series MVP, cementing his legacy as one of the game’s all-time greats. He later returned to Ontario to play for the Huntsville Hawks and remained a proud member of his hometown community.

As an Invitational Tournament sanctioned by the Ontario Lacrosse Association (OLA), official tournament dates are established annually by the OLA. Dates are not released until the OLA Semi-Annual General Meeting (SAGM), typically held on the last weekend of February.

Important: Do not submit your intent to register prior to the above date or time. Any submissions received before this time will not be considered.

Registration and tournament dates are established annually by the OLA and are not released until the Ontario Lacrosse Semi-Annual General Meeting (SAGM), typically held on the first weekend of March.

  • Teams must submit an email confirming their intent to attend the tournament to Eric Lavergne - tournament@hawkslacrosse.ca

    Once contacted by the Huntsville District Minor Lacrosse Association, payment will be required to confirm and secure your spot.

    • Due to a limited number of spots, only ONE team per club may apply.

    • Tournament entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, determined by:

      • The order in which registration emails are received

      • Receipt of full payment

    • Teams will be contacted once registration is confirmed and payment has been received.

  • Tournament Fee: $1,000

    Payment Method: Peloton or E-transfer Only

    Payment instructions will be provided once your team has been contacted by the club.

  • All cancellations must be submitted in writing. Refunds will be issued according to the following schedule:

    • 60 days or more prior to the tournament: 100% refund of tournament fee, less a $50 administrative fee

    • 30–59 days prior to the tournament: 50% refund of tournament fee

    • Less than 30 days prior to the tournament: No refund
